Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES KENNETH SCHARIEN Passed away peacefully on March 11, 2002, at the Seven Regions Health Centre, James Kenneth Scharien at the age of 80 years, of Gladstone, MB. Dad was born in Oakville, MB, on September 21, 1921, and grew up on a farm near MacDonald. In 1941 he joined the R.A.F. and served overseas in the Second World War. After the war he enjoyed the opportunity to tour Europe on a baseball team representing the Canadian Air Force. He returned to Westbourne and commercially fished before settling in Gladstone and starting a painting business in 1962. In 1970 he married Linda Switzer of Golden Stream, with whom he raised three sons, James, Randall, and Mark. Many of his winters were spent curling before maintaining the Gladstone Curling Rink. He was rewarded with an honourary life membership in 1991. Dad was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret; sisters, Bonnie and Lil. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years and three sons; his sister Evelyn (Olie) brothers, Bud (Irene) and Les. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends with whom he shared many special times. A celebration of Dads life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at Clarkes Funeral Chapel (Gladstone) with Rev. Blair Whyte officiating. Interment at Gladstone Cemetery to follow.
