DORIS MAUD WAITE 1910 - 2002 Died peacefully March 12, 2002. Predeceased by her parents, Edward and Rebecca; brothers, William and Frederick; sister Rebecca Gillespie. She is survived by sister Evelyn Fetter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Doris will also be lovingly remembered by Anna Desilets, husband Ronald and their children. Born in London, England, Doris emigrated to Canada with her widowed mother and her siblings in 1919, arriving in Winnipeg on Armistice Day to snowbanks and cold. Miss Waite was proud of her 34 years career with the Manitoba Telephone System where she became one of the first women to hold a supervisory position. She maintained her association with the Telephone Pioneers in whose membership she counted numerous friends. Doris was a loving and devoted caregiver to many in her family: mother, brothers, and to her specially dear nephew, Ron Gillespie. In turn, she was most appreciative of the love and care she received from family and neighbours who enriched her life; especially to niece Carol Taylor and husband John Pinkerton and grandniece Linda ODell (Clint), who helped her through the years to stay in her own home, and the Desilets family who took excellent care of their neighbour. With her ever keen and active mind, Doris loved reading, music, nature and travel. She took great pleasures till the last in recalling her trips to Europe, the U.S.A. and Asia. A celebration of Doriss life was held on Friday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 232 Kennedy St. Viewing took place one half prior to the service. Interment followed in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Kermer, John Pinkerton, Ron Desilets, Clint ODell, David George and Gord Taylor. For those wishing to honour Doriss memory, a contribution may be made to the W. & F. & D. Waite Bursary, The Medical Foundation, 149-730 William Ave., Winnipeg R3E OW3. The bursary assists students doing research into kidney disease. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 232 Kennedy Street 949-4878
