MARY ZAIK 1923 - 2002 We, the family of Mary Zaik, are filled with profound sadness, as we announce her passing on Thursday, March 14, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Gimli, MB. Surrounded by her children, Sam (Kitty), Ted (Doris), Darlene, Joe (Audrey), Diane (Doug), Allen (Kim) and her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Samuel; her precious grandson Roddy (her best friend) her brother Mike; sister Rose; and son-in-law Richard Smith. She is survived by her sister Sophie. Mom was born and raised in Gimli, MB, and spent all of her life there, with the exception of nine years spent in Charleswood. Mom loved her children unconditionally, and devoted herself to them and their families. She showered us with love, perogies, holupchi and periska, some of which went to Greece. She enjoyed gardening, the smell of freshly turned earth and Saskatoon and mushroom picking. We wish to thank the doctors and staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital and Carol, of the Palliative Care Unit, for her compassion and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, donations in moms memory may be sent to a charity of ones choice. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, First Ave., Gimli, MB, with Deacon Ray Sutton officiating. At moms request, cremation and interment have taken place. "Mother" a word that means closeness and caring ... a wonderful word that means love. GILBART FUNERAL CHAPEL, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
