MATHILDA BARKMAN FRIESEN 1910 - 2002 Wife of Jacob Q. Friesen, mother of Carol Parent, grandmother to Michelle (Peter Goodson), Daniel (Maggie), Marcel (Harmony), great-grandmother to Gari and Taylor Goodson, Rachel and Benjamin Parent and Shaun Parent passed away on March 18, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital after a two month illness. She was predeceased by her son Reg in 1998. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris (Giesbrecht) and Mary (Neil Friesen) and brother Walter (Martha). Born in Steinbach, starting married life in Whitemouth, she spent most of her years in Ste. Anne. She was renowned for her generosity in all things. What began with a tray full of doughnuts at the garage grew into meals for friends and strangers alike. Some fruit of her labour usually accompanied you when leaving, from garden produce to cookies, plant cuttings and flowers to doilies. She shared her faith unselfishly in every respect and particularly by having Sunday School in her home for many years. (Remember the Christmas programs and picnics.) Her home was always open for birthdays, showers and celebrations of all kinds. Moving to Winnipeg in the 1980s, satisfied her need to see and learn through university courses, Travelogues and seniors outings. She valued the many new friendships she made. Sincere thanks to all the nurses and orderlies who provided endless TLC. She loved you all. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Interment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery.
