MATILDA "TILLIE" STEINHOFF (nee BOYLE) Peacefully after a lengthy stay at the Charleswood Care Centre, Tillie Steinhoff passed away at the age of 89 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Guy, to whom she was married for 60 years; one son Ray (Mary) one daughter Barbara Bell (Davie) grandsons, Christopher and Jeffrey; and her sister Sadie. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Jack and Alex; and one sister Anne. Tillie was born in Winnipeg on February 10, 1913 to Agnes and Joseph Boyle, who had recently immigrated from Ireland. She spent her early years in the Elmwood area of Winnipeg. She attended Lord Selkirk School and later Business College. Upon graduation, she was employed by the Commercial Union and later Aikins MacAulay. During this time, she played baseball and enjoyed ice skating, where she met her future husband. Guy and Tillie were married in 1941 and after Guy returned from the service overseas, moved to the west end of Winnipeg, where they raised their family. At this time Tillie bowled with the Isaac Brock League and curled with the Thistle Ladies Club, where she served as the club secretary. Guy and Tillie spent many winters curling with the Thistle Saturday Niters, and played many rounds of golf during the summer at the Carman Golf Course, where they made many friends. Before and after Guys retirement, they travelled extensively across Canada and to parts of the United States. Their most memorable trips, however, were to Europe, North Africa, South America, Australia and Bermuda. A private family gathering will be held on Friday, March 22. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Charleswood Care Centre, for the care and compassion they gave our mother. Should friends desire, donations in Tillies memory may be made to a charity of ones choice. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1858 Portage Avenue 949-4872
