Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARY GORDON (WHYNACHT) WHYNOTT Gary passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Health Sciences Centre. He was born January 9, 1949 in Liverpool, NS, son of Marion (Weagle) Whynacht and the late Ferman Whynacht. Besides his mother, Gary is survived by sister Faye (Don) Smith of Kentville, NS; niece Jacqueline (George) Koszucki of Wolfville, NS; nephew Corey (Cynthia) Smith of New Minus, NS; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Alicia and Morgan Smith and Roman Koszucki; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Ferman and younger brother Bruce. In Garys early years he was actively involved in Cub Scouts, a church youth group, the Red Cross, and the United Church of Liverpool. He completed high school in Liverpool and went on to graduate from Seneca University in Toronto with a degree in Sociology. He worked on the streets in Toronto with troubled youth. Later he moved to Winnipeg to continue social work. In the mid-80s Gary played a key role in the development of Jocelyn House hospice. He then went on to be first Executive Director and one of the founders of AIDS Shelter Coalition. He was also involved in every aspect of the development of Artemis Housing Cooperative. More recently he worked tirelessly as an advocate for alternative therapies for people having AIDS. His life was marked by his passion and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Thursday March 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Young United Church, 222 Furby St. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to Nine Circles Community Health Centre, 705 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0X2.
