Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD CHARLES MILLIGAN Edward Charles Milligan of Pipestone, MB passed away in his 96th year at the Reston Hospital on March 5, 2002 with family close at hand. He was born in the area where he died on March 16, 1906. He married Flora Doris Bessette on May 23, 1930. He was predeceased by his wife Flora in 1976 and sons, Gerald in 1945 and Donald in 1960. Ed was the patriarch of the Milligan clan of Pipestone and the "King of Pipestone" according to his grandsons. He is also predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth (nee Kruger) Milligan, who homesteaded in Manitoba in the early part of the 20th century. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Edward and wife Florence of Winnipeg, son Nelson and wife Betty of Regina; daughter Pat and husband Ed Friesen of Winnipeg; daughter Evelyn Tarasiuk of Toronto, daughter Yvonne and husband Dr. Sandy Fleming of Toronto and daughter Joyce and husband Robert Chilton of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his sister Ella Dunphy of Pipestone; his special niece Gert Davis; sister-in-law Rose Petit. Ed had a wealth of grandchildren, Dawn, Kerry and Guyle Milligan, Catherine, Nelson, Donald and Shawn Milligan, Pamela Weiss, Mark, Vincent and Bradley Friesen, Jason Tarasiuk, Jonathan and Darcy Fleming and Robb Milligan Chilton. Edward Milligan was a strong and proud man who believed in the power of work and the power of the land. Even into his last decade he was acquiring property and ensuring the maintenance of the land by planting thousands of trees and custom combining. He designed and marketed a livestock scale through Milligan Industries. Of course Eddies violin playing was legendary. Ed was able to maintain his homes in town and on the farm up until about six months ago, at which time he entered the Reston Hospital, where his death occurred.
