ERNEST HENRY THOMAS SMITH Peacefully, on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Victoria Hospital, Ernest Smith passed away at the age of 87 years. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Annie Smith; his first wife Margaret and his sister Elsie Snowball. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Neta Smith; his daughter Janice and husband Bob; two granddaughters, Bridget Martindale, Tammy Petriew and husband Chris; two great-granddaughters, Melissa Martindale and Elise Petriew. Ernie worked for the fire department from 1939 till his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed his retirement by travelling in the winter months to Mesa, AZ from 1965 up until this year. This year would have been Ernies first winter in Winnipeg since retirement. Ernie was a member of the Fidelity Lodge in the Masons, and he was also a longtime member of the St. James Legion. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Chaplin Rick Cieciwa officiating. A private family interment will be held at Garry Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Foundation or to the charity of ones choice.
