Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLA ANN MANNING Peacefully with her family at her side, Willa Ann Manning passed away on Monday, March 25, 2002, at Victoria General Hospital after a prolonged struggle with double pneumonia. Willa will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a very sensitive, kind, and gentle person who worked quietly and diligently in the background while letting others take the accolades. Willa always believed in giving more than her fair share in everything she did. She is survived by husband Bob; only son Bryan and wife Sally; granddaughters, Elizabeth Joy and Lindsay Anne; sister Molly Carey and husband Jimmy; brother-in-law Bill Manning and wife Norma; niece Lynn Claydon and husband Norman; niece Sandra Nozick and husband Stanley; nephew Billy Manning and wife Colleen; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Her parents, Christopher and Anne Oslin; her sister Lil Reynolds, and brother-in-law Al Reynolds predeceased Willa. Willa was born on September 22, 1912 at the old townsite of Pinawa, and at an early age, moved with her parents to Point du Bois. Shortly afterwards her father disappeared on his trapline in northern Ontario and her mother was left to raise three young girls with the help, support, and encouragement from the people "the Pointe". Willas mother succeeded in nurturing, educating, and training three lovely and refreshing young ladies. After leaving school, Willa went to work for Dr. Woods in Lac du Bonnet. In 1941, Willa met Bob, a sailor in the Royal Canadian Navy, on a blind date in Winnipeg. Romance followed, and they became engaged on March 21, 1942. Willa and Bob would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2002. After the war, Willa set about establishing a home with Bob in Transcona. In 1946, their son Bryan was born, and Willa and Bob returned to Pointe du Bois where she was actively involved with the Community Club and the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. During their marriage, Willa and Bob lived in several communities in British Columbia and Manitoba. Willa especially enjoyed living in Selkirk where she was able to exhibit her talent in her gardening abilities and flower arrangements. In addition, she was a hard worker for the Womens Auxiliary for Junior Golf Development and she enjoyed participation in the Rotary Anns and volunteer work at the hospital in Selkirk. In latter years, Willa was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She gave freely of her time and knew no boundaries in her love for her granddaughters. Willa was always willing to help in any way she could and was selfless in her caring. Bob and family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to family and friends who visited and sent prayers during Willas illness. A very special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff for their care, acts of kindness, and encouraging words at Victoria General Hospital. A celebration of Willas life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at the Funeral Home of Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. A light luncheon reception will follow in Reception Centre at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation or to a charity of their choice.
