EDMUND KARL KESSLER October 7, 1923 - March 31, 2002 Passed away peacefully with dignity and courage at the Ste. Anne Hospital on Easter Sunday after a very brief illness. We thank God for Edmunds life, for all his wonderful talents, and for his heart full of love for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Selma in 1974. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Doreen; two children, George (Jan) Bones and Gina Smith. Opa had a very special love in his heart for his six grandchildren, Derek and Kevin Bones, Brian, Michelle (Jeff Hood), Laura and Steven Smith. His legacy lives on in them as they are the beneficiaries of his wisdom, his love and his kindness. They learned many valuable life lessons because of their Opas strong work ethic, the consistent example of doing his very best, and watching his generosity in helping those in need. Edmund was born and raised in Kassel, Germany in a family of 11 children where he learned very early in life the merits of hard work. Predeceased in Germany by his parents; one sister Hilda; and three brothers, Kurt, Arthur, and Helmut. Left to mourn in Germany are two brothers, Hans and Waldemar; four sisters, Anneliese, Kaethe, Ursula, and Heidi, and their families. Edmund immigrated to Canada in 1957 and worked as service manager in office machines for J.G. Turner Ltd. until his retirement in 1984. He took pride in all the additions and changes he made to his "Kassel" at West Hawk Lake, which in his mind was never finished, as he always had one more project in the planning stages. While he was in the hospital, and knowing he could no longer carry on with his next project, he instructed his grandchildren just how they were to finish the next project he had planned. Edmund spent many enjoyable hours working in his gardens, puttering in his workshop, and feeding all the wildlife and birds. Edmund was a member of Winfal Seniors, and an active volunteer in many community events. Together with many volunteers, he spearheaded the building of All Peoples Church at Falcon Lake from 1991 to 2002. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bissonnette and the staff at Ste. Annes Hospital, who were so kind and caring to Edmund during his stay. A memorial service will be held at All Peoples Church, Falcon Lake on Wednesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jerry Spoor officiating. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to All Peoples Church, Falcon Lake, MB R0E 0N0. Arrangements entrusted to: EDWARD J. COUTU LTD. 680 ARCHIBALD ST. 253-5086
