RONALD MICHAEL KOHANCHUK It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Michael Kohanchuk on April 3, 2002 at Grace Hospital with his family and close friends by his side, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother Julia, who with strength, wisdom and love nurtured him throughout his entire life; his children, Michael, Donna, Angela, Daniel, Jeffery and Janelle; his devoted puppy "Lulu"; grandchildren, Gregory, Kimberley and Carrie; his brothers, Joe Buddy (Kay) and Wally Budy (Agnes) his sister Chessie Todd (Jim) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron also leaves to mourn him his special companion Marilyn Calderon; dear friends, Allan Rosky and Deb Jenkins, Walter and Miranda Romanyshyn who supported and comforted Ron with their presence and love throughout his illness. A multitude of special friends too numerous to mention will also mourn Rons passing. Ron was predeceased by his father Michael Kohanchuk. Ron was born on July 20, 1943 in East Selkirk, MB. He grew up on an acreage on the river, a spot he loved and often revisited. After high school, Ron worked for his brother Wally Budy at the Texaco station in Selkirk. Ron eventually opened his own business, which was well known as Rons Carburetor, located in East Kildonan. Ron worked for 14 years as a Service Advisor at Parkside Ford where his skill and expertise were highly valued. Ron developed many friendships during this time. He had just started working at Jim Gauthier Chev-Olds where he achieved great success in a very short period of time. Rons music was so much a part of who he was. There was nothing he enjoyed more than playing in the Common People Band which he was able to do right up until mid-February 2002. Ron had the natural ability to play for all kinds of crowds while keeping the dance floor full. He was truly a gifted musician whose talent on the accordion was without limits. His music is a legacy left to us all. Ron was many things to many people but first and foremost he was a loving and devoted father. There were no limits to what Ron would do for his children. They can all take comfort in knowing that he was always proud of them and their achievements and that he loved them unconditionally. The family would like to express a very special heartfelt thank you to Allan Rosky for his tremendous support and to the nurses on 4 West Palliative Care Unit at the Grace Hospital for all the care and compassion given to Ron and his family throughout this difficult time. "The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright sea-shells in the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains... For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains." A Memorial Mass will be held on April 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, 269 Jemima Street, Selkirk, MB with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Interment of ashes to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rons memory to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Palliative Care Unit at Grace Hospital. Rest peacefully our dear Ron - well miss you. GILBART FUNERAL HOME, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.

What an honor, and a privilege it was for me to be a part of your "Common People" band. First and foremost, you were a gentleman. And your amazing talent on the accordian was without equal. Ron was just that good. I will always treasure our times together making music. Rest in peace Ron. We all miss you. - Posted by: Ken Kublanski (Fellow musician. ) on: Nov 20, 2013
