Date of Passing: Apr 03, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUISE VALA OTTO, RN (nee DUESTERHOEFT) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Luise Otto at age 67 on Wednesday. April 3, 2002 at Concordia Hospital after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Konrad in 1996. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Andrea and Peter; her sisters Elli and Erika and their families in Germany; Herbert and Louise Butz and family, and Jean and Ben Nikolai and family in Winnipeg. Luise will be greatly missed by all her friends and family in Canada and Germany. Mom was born on February 13, 1935 in Katarzyna, Poland. After the Second World War, her family settled in Germany where she grew up. She pursued a career in nursing, both in Germany and when she came to Canada in 1963. Mom accepted the challenge of learning English and having to re-complete her nursing certification in order to work as a nurse in Winnipeg. Mom nursed in many areas, but her gifts of caring and compassion led her to a distinguished career in Long Term Care at Donwood Manor and E6 at HSC. A work related injury forced Mom into early retirement in 1989. Mom and Dad met in 1964 and they were married in 1966. Andrea and Peter soon followed and many happy years were spent together while they were growing up. The Otto household was one of laughter and good times. Any friends or neighbours that came over were always greeted with a warm smile and Moms generous hospitality. Mom always put her familys needs before her own. Mom loved nature and spent many long hours tending her flower and vegetable gardens and watching the birds in the backyard. Mom was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since she came to Canada, participating in many areas of church life. Her faith in God was very important to her. She also sat on the board of Carriage House North and helped canvas for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for many years. Mom was always supporting those less fortunate. Even when times were tough, she would always find a way to help others. Peter and Andrea would especially like to thank the Dziad, Bajt and Seadon families for their assistance, support and love for Mom when we needed it. Special thanks to the ICU staff at Concordia for their care of Mom. Viewing and visitation will take place on Monday, April 8 between 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Moms Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 265 Flora Avenue (at King Street) with Pastor Christoph Reiners officiating. Parking available at the German Club next to the church. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens on Main Street. If desired, donations in Luises memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
