VALDENA (WALLY) COATES (nee STEINKE) Sadly, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Wally Coates, on April 3, 2002, after a brief battle with cancer and with her family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Jim (Juin) daughter Lori Dusessoy (grandchildren, Dustin and Danielle Dusessoy) and daughter Karen Coates (Craig) and Sarah and Jonathan. She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolf and Mathilda Steinke. Mom was born in Morris, MB on August 19, 1930. She was an excellent student who also worked on her parents farm. She went on to teach in a one-room schoolhouse in Baldur, MB before moving to Winnipeg where she met Dad. They were married in 1950 and began building their home and raising two daughters. Mom retired from the City of Winnipeg (Charleswood Municipal Office) in 1980 and she and Dad moved to Clearbrook, BC to care for her Dad. They returned to Winnipeg in 1985 to be close to their new grandchildren and family. Family was very important to Mom and she especially loved having us all each and every Sunday for a home-cooked meal. A private family funeral service will be held, with interment in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Our deepest thanks to all Moms caregivers who made her as comfortable as possible during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 500 - 55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1L8.
