GLADYS KOLOMY (nee NICHOLSON) 1929 - 2002 With deep sadness we announce the passing of Gladys on April 8, 2002 at home with loving family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Mike Kolomy and her parents, Beda and Martin Nicholson. Her memory will be cherished by her sisters, Ellen Smith, Edith Beattie, Claire McComb, Marion Wurch (Irvin) brothers, Eric (Norma), Harold (JoAnn) and Bertil; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Gladys was born in Brookfield near Lac du Bonnet. She attended Brookfield school and later business college in Winnipeg. In the early 1950s she moved to Thunder Bay and for many years worked for Investors Syndicate. In 1966, Gladys married her friend and golf pro Mike Kolomy. Together they enjoyed many winter holidays in Florida. After Mikes death in 1984 she returned to Winnipeg to help care for mother. It was at this time she became an active member of the Sturgeon Creek United Church, well known for her wonderful baking and craft contributions to her church bazaar. She loved gardening and berry picking, the fruits of which she generously shared. Along with her two cats Mouse and Misty, vacations at Rush Bay on Lake of the Woods brought her a lot of enjoyment and a love of the outdoors. Trips to Abbotsford and the Vancouver area as well as Dryden were also high on the list of places to visit. Gladys courage in the face of her illness, was an inspiration to all who knew her. Honouring her wishes cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank Dr. Frame for her caring compassion, Dr. Harris, the staff at the Grace oncology department and especially palliative care nurse Chris. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. on April 12 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, in lieu, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
