MONTY (MARIA) PATRICK September 24, 1928 to April 7, 2002 On April 7, 2002, in her 73rd year, Monty was received into the arms of her Lord after a courageous battle with cancer, at home surrounded by family in Piney, MB. Monty is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John (Jack) children, Rebecca (Bill) of Gravenhurst, ON, Ileana of Winnipeg, MB, Greg (Judy) of Drayton Valley, AB, David (Jennifer) of Piney, MB, Roslyn (Keith) of Toronto, ON, Richard (Susan) of Winnipeg, MB, and Stewart of Kitchener, ON. Loving grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 20, and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Monty was predeceased by her father and mother, John Monetz (Monty) and Oelena Andruk; brother Alex and sister Margariette (Marge). Monty came to Piney as a teacher. She married Jack in 1950 and settled into life in Piney, becoming quite an active member of the community. Monty was instrumental in many of the changes the R.M. of Piney, as well as many achievements on committees to strengthen the community. Monty was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 176, a life member of the Pine Valley Kraft Klub, a 4-H leader, a member of the Hospital Board, and as well, worked to make a difference in the lives of foster children. In addition to her volunteer contributions, her professional accomplishments included a directorship on the Manitoba Agricultural Crown Lands Appeal Board and manageress of a popular catering service. Monty will be remembered for her willingness to help, as well as her outspoken nature. The memorial service will be Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. in the Piney Community Church, with lunch following at the Piney Community Centre. Honourary pallbearers, Rebecca Fitchett, Ileana Patrick, Greg Patrick, David Patrick, Roslyn Patrick, Richard Patrick, Stewart Patrick and Pat Brugheilli. A very special thank you to Karen and Rita, the homecare workers who took such good care of Monty and who are now considered part of the family. To the hospital staff and the doctors, especially Dr. Azar, for their compassion, patience and understanding. To all of Monty s friends, who helped her along the way, especially through the difficult times. With gratitude, thank you.
