MARY LENARTOWICH After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Mary Lenartowich passed away at the Beausejour Hospital, April 8, 2002, at 84 years of age. Mary was predeceased by her husband William; her parents, Mary and Kotch Sedor; sisters, Maggie, Anne, Kate, and infant; brothers, Nick, Andrew, Pete, Bert, and Steve. Left to mourn her passing are son Ivan and daughter-in-law Lorraine; granddaughter Melissa and husband Jeremy Fahey; great-granddaughters, Jordan and Justine Fahey and grandson Ian Lenartowich, all of Winnipeg; daughter Valerie and son-in-law Dennis Stevenson of Thompson, MB and granddaughter Shannon Stevenson of Winnipeg. Mary is also survived by one sister Tina Augustowich of Winnipegosis and many nieces and nephews. Mary was born in the Mossey River Municipality on July 31, 1917. She left home to begin work at a very young age, working in Dauphin, Sudbury, and eventually to various fish camps on Lake Winnipegosis where she met her "Little Bill". They were married on July 18, 1940, in The Pas, MB and settled in Mafeking where they raised their family. In 1987 she moved to the Elks Manor in Winnipegosis, back to her birthplace. Although Marys eyesight was gradually deteriorating, she was able to get by with the help of family and friends. In October, 2000, her son Ivan and wife Lorraine moved her to the Birds Hill Manor so that she would be closer to them and she could enjoy visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ivan also became her "CHEF and SHOPPER", however, she was always in control of her menu. Lorraine became her "PERSONAL JACK OF ALL TRADES". Both Ivan and Lorraine enjoyed looking after Mom immensely. Lorraine even had Gramma believing that "Weekender is the Best". During Marys early life she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning. Her pastimes were knitting and crocheting for others to enjoy, as well as bingo and cards. With the loss of her eyesight she was unable to continue to do these things but enjoyed to sit and listen. Most of all she enjoyed and cherished her children and took great pleasure in spoiling them all, as well as her grandchildren and her two great-granddaughters. Mom, to us, and Mary to the people who knew her, was a very kind and generous person to all and will be very sadly missed, especially by her family. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Beausejour Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. Also a special thank you to volunteer Lenore for being there with us. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Mary will be interred next to her husband in a private family service in Swan River, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
