CHARLES WESLEY IRVINE CAMPBELL Peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2002, Charles Campbell passed away at the age of 88 in Medicine Hat, AB after a long and valiant battle with lung disease. Charlie was born to John Thomas and Florence Huston Campbell on October 14, 1913 in Winnipeg. He served overseas from 1940 to 1945, attached to the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade, Central Mediterranean Force. Dad was wounded in action and repatriated to Canada in April 1945. He worked as a journeyman electrician in Winnipeg, Selkirk, and Northern Manitoba. Dad relocated to Medicine Hat in 1979 residing with his daughter Lorraine, his primary caregiver, during the last seven years. Charlie was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Selkirk, The Pas, and Medicine Hat. Dad was predeceased by his parents, his brother Randolph, wife Anne, son-in-law Richard Buckley, and grandson Andrew McKenzie. He leaves to mourn his passing six children, John (Jeannine Dumaine) of Winnipeg, Lorraine Buckley of Medicine Hat, Linda Lamb (Lloyd) of Winnipeg, Margaret McKenzie (Douglas) of St. Paul, MN, Bruce (Kathy) of Winnipeg, and Colin of Edmonton; 15 grand-children, Gordon and Glenn Campbell, Kathryn Giebelhaus, Karen Bowler, Paul Buckley, Laura and Susan Lamb, Robert and Kevin McKenzie, Denise Nedegaard, James, Lesley, and Robyn Campbell, Melissa and Kristin Campbell; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Harold Bower; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg on Friday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 265 Flora Ave. (at King), with Pastor Ron C. Nelson officiating. A memorial service will be held in Medicine Hat at a later date. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the medical and health care professionals and facilities and home care workers in Medicine Hat for their competence and compassion, and especially to Dr. Anthony F. Jeraj for supporting Dad throughout his long battle. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association in Dads memory.
