SHIZUKO MIKI (nee OOTO) Shizuko (Sisco) Miki passed away peacefully the morning of April 21, 2002 surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old. Shizuko was the daughter of the late Tokusaburo and Yoshi Ooto and was predeceased by husband Kazuo; and brothers, Tameo and Takeo. She is survived by daughter Joan (Brian) of Vancouver; and sons, Arthur (Keiko) of Winnipeg, Les (Joanne) of Regina and Roy (Slavia) of Vancouver; as well as 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In 1913 she was born at Port Essington, BC and later moved to Haney where her parents established a berry farm. She was uprooted in May, 1942 to a Manitoba sugar beet farm in Ste. Agathe. In 1944 she moved to North Kildonan and then settled in Winnipeg where she worked many years at Dominion Tanners. She was later employed as a bookkeeper by Canadian Fish and Neptune Fisheries. Sisco was a longtime member of Knox United Church Japanese Congregation. In her retirement she enjoyed many years of close relationships with cherished friends, travelling together on exciting trips in and out of Canada. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 in Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St. The family wishes to thank her friends for their support and visits to Sisco at the nursing home. Special appreciation to the Oakview Place, especially staff on the third floor, for their wonderful care.
