MARY HELEN MONKMAN Peacefully on April 23, 2002 at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Mary Monkman, aged 83 years, of Matheson Island, MB. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Hector, in 1988; a son Ken in 1941; her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Settee; brothers, Charles, Gilbert, Leonard, Frank and Clifford; and sisters, Edna, Martha, Ruth and Mae. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her children, Glen of Nelson, BC; Harold (Isabel) of East Selkirk, MB; Joan Belanger (Rene), Wayne (Debbie) and Bonnie Crowther (Roy), all of Hay River, NWT; Mona Hatch (Eaon) of Plamondon, AB; and Pat Broadhead (Ron) and Elaine Saucier (Bert) of Grimshaw, AB; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Lawrence; a sister Florence; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mary was born at Matheson Island on July 2, 1918 and lived her early years there. She married Hector on July 25, 1939 in Winnipeg. Together they moved to Favourable Lake, ON, where her first three sons were born, Ken, Harold and Glen. Their next move was to Loon Straights, where six more children were born. In 1963 the family moved to Hay River, NWT, residing there until 1984, whereupon they moved back to Matheson Island. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Pastor Neil Von Gunten officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service time. Interment to be held on Sunday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Matheson Island. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
