GLADYS RAMSEY BALTZELL JENNINGS Aged 105 of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Manorhouse in Wilmington of natural causes. She was born prematurely January 12, 1897 in Green Ridge, Manitoba, Canada, daughter of the late Robert Ramsey and Edith Froom Ramsey. Mrs. Jennings had an active career in business, community affairs and politics. She was a one room school teacher in Canada, charter member of the League of Women Voters in the early 1920s in Chicago, and a real estate broker. She was also a Common Cause advocate, supported the Dove House shelter for battered women in Clinton, Arkansas, and had many other interests. Mrs. Jennings was recognized in the AARP Highlights Newsletter and by President Clinton in the White House on her 100th Birthday. Preceding her in death were her daughter, author Margaret B. Krieg of Washington, DC; her two husbands, Walter Thomas Baltzell and William Jennings; and her eight siblings. Mrs. Jennings is survived by her daughter Frances A. Stover of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A private service will be held, and her ashes will be buried next to her first husband in Decatur, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401. Local arrangements by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN.
