ALEX MURENKO Passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness on Monday, April 29, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his wife Anne; his son Igor and wife Peggy; daughters, Lucie Rozmus and husband Joe, Tania Willumsen and husband Arnold of Okotoks, AB; granddaughters, Jessica and Vanessa; grandsons, Christopher and Andrew; and his extended family in Okotoks, Vancouver and the Ukraine. Alex was born in the Ukraine in 1924 and immigrated to Canada from France in 1952 with his wife Anne and daughter Tania. Despite the trials of refugee life following the revolution, persecution by the Soviets and a world war, he maintained his sense of humour, patience and understanding. He loved his life in Winnipeg, was an avid soccer player in his youth, loved sports and enjoyed fishing. The family thanks his caregiver Irene, nurse Lynn MacGregor and all the staff, doctors, and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface Hospital who made his last few weeks so comfortable. Visitation and prayer service will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., and will be followed by a funeral service on Saturday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 820 Burrows Ave., with Rev. Fr. Jaroslaw S. Buciora officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alexs memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or the Manitoba Lung Association. "We Love You, Gigi" CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
