THECLA VERONICA CHIVERS Peacefully at Concordia Hospital on Friday, May 3, 2002 Thecla passed away after a short illness. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Cathy Worton and Pat Bucholz (Bob) as well as by her six grandchildren, Jim, Craig, and Kimberley Worton, and Jonathan, Lisa and Jessica Bucholz. She is also survived by her sister, Catherine Walsh, Burlington, ON and her sisters-in-law, Iris Chivers, Winnipeg and Shirley Beach, Alliston, ON. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and cousins in Winnipeg and Ontario. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob; brothers-in-law, Jerry Walsh, Bill Chivers, and Reg Beach; and her son-in-law Doug Worton. Thecla was born in 1920 in Toronto, ON where she grew up, went to school and started a career with the Ontario Department of Labor. She moved to Winnipeg in 1948 after her marriage to Bob. Settling in East Kildonan, she was an active participant in many church and community organizations including St. Alphonsus Church and CWL, St. Josephs Residence Chapel Guild, Prince Edward Legions Ladies Auxiliary, Melrose Park Community Club, and Kelvin Ladies Bowling League. Thecla was always helping others as a volunteer for several charities, March of Dimes, Red Feather and the Red Cross. She was keenly interested in politics and regularly participated in election enumerations and voting polls. Thecla and Bob enjoyed spending their summers at their cottage in Sandy Hook with family and friends. Although she wasnt much of an outdoors person, she enjoyed playing cards and board games. She took pride in keeping up to date with current events by reading the newspaper from cover to cover. Prayers will be said on Monday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 300 Donalds Ave. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 7, at 1:00 p.m. also in St. Alphonsus Church. Interment to follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Theclas memory to the Childrens Hospital Foundation, CE 501, 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1S1. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
