EUGENE (GENE) CLYDE

EUGENE (GENE) CLYDE With great sorrow, we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father and friend. He was born in Kamsack, SK on January 30, 1924. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Isabella and his older brother Bill, who was his mentor. Gene took his schooling in Kamsack, then worked for awhile for the C.N.R. He joined the RCAF for a short time at the West Coast, then came home in 1945. At that time, Rose Thorlacius had come to teach at Kamsack, and, on December 22, 1947, they were married in Westminster Church. Gene decided to attend the Saskatoon University and Rose taught school there. Gene received two degrees B.A. and B.ED. They were happy when their two sons were born. Kurt, on November 5, 1950 and Rick, on December 26, 1952. Gene came back to the railroad for awhile. In 1955, the family moved to Winnipeg. He was employed as a Rule Instructor Examiner with the C.N.R. In 1964, he left the C.N.R. and joined the Federal Public Service and was employed as an Education Counsellor with the Department of Indian Affairs. He retired at the end of March 1988. His passions and interests were many, tennis, cars, skating, Saskatchewan Roughriders, a Saint Bernard and reading history books. Gene and Rose enjoyed retired life travelling by car, planes, and ships. It was a successful marriage which lasted 55 years. He is survived by his wife Rose; two sons, Kurt Clyde (Nancy), Gary, Brennan and Pamela; Rick Clyde (Jay), Connor; cousins, Audrey Campbell, Jean Nicholson, Ray Clyde; in-laws, Jon and Beth Thorlacius. Cremation has take place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Oxford United Church on Tuesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
