ALMUR GEORGE KELLY 1924 - 2002 With the same strength and dignity that he lived his life Almur George Kelly passed away from this world April 30, 2002 at the Brooks Hospital near his home in Duchess, AB. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Violet (nee Adamac), their daughter Kimberly (Dan) McPhee of Calgary; and his elder daughter Karen (Donald) Ross of Winnipeg; grand-children, Elizabeth (Andrew) Ross-Stubbs of Antwerp, Belgium, Jennifer (Michael) Workman of Onanole and Keily McPhee of Calgary; and great-grandchildren, Brianna and Mallory Workman and Kieran Ross-Stubbs. He was born in Crawford Park, MB to Elizabeth and George Kelly on July 27, 1924. Theirs was a large and close family who loved and cherished one anothers company and do to this day. Almur was predeceased by his parents and dear sister Irene Halldorson of Drayton Valley, AB. He will be sadly missed by sisters, Margaret Ward, Doris Dunlop, Lois (Douglas) Steele, Joan Saedal, all of Winnipeg and Shirley (Guy) Archambault of Seachelt, BC; and brother Ronald (Lee) Kelly of Grande Cache, AB. As well his 20 nieces and nephews will miss his gentle company and kind guidance. As a father-in-law to Dan McPhee and Donald Ross he was their source and their soul mate. Almur had a life full of such variety. As a young man he helped to work his fathers homestead in Crawford Park. He enlisted in the Navy April 1942 to serve during the Second World War. For a time he was self-employed as a painter and carpenter then he returned to the Armed Forces until he retired in 1972. Almur, Violet and Kimberly travelled and lived in most of the regions of this beautiful country but it was after retirement that the travelling really began. Dad became a "bus nut" and long hauled a huge self designed silver and blue "greyhound" with a small matching Volkswagen in tow. He loved the desert and the simple life and eventually lured most of his family to join him. His was a quiet way, completely strong and comforting. He was a person who could do anything. Things like house levelling, motor repair, trailer wiring, embroidering, knitting, grandfather clock making - all these mysteries he solved by diligence and just trying again. Almur, Dad, is gone from this world but so many things remain that were taught and built and created and his last teaching was that of bravery and acceptance. For family and friends a celebration of his life will be held at the Crawford Park Hall on July 27 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in his name may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Brooks Medical Centre, Brooks, AB T1R 1B3.
