PETER MACRAE Peter MacRae died peacefully, after a short battle with cancer, on May 5, 2002. Peter is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 53 years; his children, Kim and Carey; grandchildren, Rhys and Kylie; his sister Mary; and brothers, Ian, Ken and Garth. Peter was proud to have served his country in the Second World War with the 19th SP Artillery and was decorated for his participation in the D-Day invasion and liberation of Europe. He remained friends with his army buddies all his life and travelled with them to Normandy in 1994 for the 50th anniversary of D-Day. Peter further served his country as a civil servant in the Customs and Excise department of the federal government, retiring after 40 years in 1978. He spent his winter leisure time bowling, first in the Academy Mixed League and City Seniors and later in several leagues at Dakota Lanes. In summer he played golf, initially as a member of St. Boniface Golf Club and later at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. In honour of Peters request there will be no funeral. "Now cracks a noble heart: good night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." from Hamlet, one of Peters favourites.
