RENE (RAY) McDONALD March 4, 1930 - May 9, 2002 After a long battle with diabetes, Ray left us peacefully on May 9, 2002. Ray leaves to mourn his wife Sheila; sons, Milt (Pat) and Glen (Karen) grandchildren, Scott, Taylor, Kristin and Laura. He will also be remembered with great love by his stepchildren, Stuart (Evy), Sharon and Bruce Power; along with Chris, Matthew and Nicole. He will be missed by brothers and sisters, Jean, Jeanette (Ray), Eddie (Willie). Ray was predeceased by his parents; brother Ernie; and sister Del. Ray was born in St. Boniface and was educated in both St. Boniface and St. Vital. He was a longtime member of Local 254 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He was employed in construction and prior to his retirement, by the Department of National Defence. He will be remembered for his lifelong love of music. He played drums in many bands and operated his own music store for some years. Ray loved being around children and will be remembered lovingly as Santa Claus by many children and Seniors in Winnipeg and the Interlake. His sense of fun will be missed by many friends. Ray was a member of Three Pillars Lodge No. 169 AF & AM and Viking Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Khartum Temple. He was also a member of the Riverton Elks No. 530, as well as the Gimli New Horizons. A celebration of Rays life will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. A private family interment will be held at at later date. Our family wishes to thank the dedicated and skillful staff at Arborg Medical Centre with special thanks to Dr. Emil Muller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Rest peacefully Ray Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
