BARI SCOTT Bari Scott, beloved mother of Sharon Hunter and Shoshana Scott, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2002. Bari came from Syracuse, NY, and chose to stay in Winnipeg because she loved it. She loved the open skies and the extraordinary light of the prairies. Those fortunate enough to have known Bari knew what a free spirit she was. She was that rare and beautiful butterfly that landed briefly on our arms. The touch was light but indelible at the same time. Bari is barely survived by her two daughters, Sharon and Shana; her one sister whom she nicknamed Tonni when she was two; and her good friends, Margie, Joy, Herb and Sandy and the many others who know who they are. Bari was crazy about a lot of things: pussy willows, reading, Vivaldi, the Spring, e.e. Cummings, Hershey bars, "Falling Water," Evelyn Hart, long walks, the owl at the zoo, Virginia Woolf, Mark Kingwell, Canada Geese, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius: Based on True Story," good pens, Peter Gzowski, Justin Trudeau, popcorn, Tom Petty, cappuccino jelly beans, long earrings, Klimt, the unnameable colour green that happens just before the leaves come out in Spring, Lily Tomlin, peanut butter and celery, Harley Davidsons, and art. One of Baris prints is of a colourful woman dancing. It says: "I cry everyday, not because Im sad but because the world is so beautiful and life is so short." She also loved the song Ruby Tuesday by the Stones: O theres no time to lose I heard her say. You gotta catch your dreams Before they run away... For friends who so wish, donations may be made to Main Street Project or to a charity of your choice. (Send to: Main Street Project, care of Joan Dawkins, 75 Martha St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1A4.)

I came across this announcement of Bari's passing. Whoever wrote this to describe her knew her well. I knew her for a handful of years around 1970 and felt so much caring for her. She was intelligent, warm, spontaneous, kind, incredibly funny and the gift of knowing her still enriches my life all these years later. I'm so grateful to have known her and carry our friendship still. I send condolences to all that knew her and loved her. - Posted by: Nikita Carter (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2021
