Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORETTA CHOCHINOV Loretta Chochinov passed away peacefully on June 15, 2002, after a short but courageous battle with acute leukemia. The funeral took place on Tuesday, June 18. She will be remembered with love by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Harvey Chochinov; sons, Zev (Sharon), Yale (Marjorie) daughter Alix (Barrie) her grandchildren, Korri (Robert), Adam (Ami), Jordon, Tyler and Elan; her great-grandchild Yael Marley; her aunt Dolly; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family. She was born in Calgary on March 17, 1928 and moved to Winnipeg in 1942. She married Harvey, her high school sweetheart, in June 1949 and soon settled in Neepawa where he set up a medical practice. In 1957 they returned to Winnipeg with their children. As the kids grew older, she returned to work in 1969 and enjoyed a successful career as dietician at the Health Sciences Centre in the Womens Pavilion until her retirement in 1988. She also served as a board member with the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society and the Friends Housing Co-op, dedicating a lot of time and effort to helping the mentally ill. But her first dedication was to her family, all of whom she showered with unconditional love and support. She was sensitive and perceptive to the needs and feelings of everyone she carried in heart. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary or any special occasion and was the first to visit someone sick in the hospital or at home. Loretta was the kind of person who made people feel special in her presence. She accepted everyone for who they were, never judging, always listening. Her motto was "If you dont have anything nice to say, say nothing" - a tried and true saying, but she really lived by that ideal. Lorettas commitment to her ideals and her compassion, sense of decency and generosity set the highest of standards for the rest of us. Her warm and loving spirit touched us all. She was our family anchor and we will miss her so much. The world has lost a share of beauty, grace and goodness with her passing. The family would also like to express gratitude to the medical staff at St. Boniface and Riverview Health Centre. Thank you to everyone who showed their support and love for Loretta during her illness. Flowers gratefully declined. Charitable donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
