JAMES (JIM) ALEXANDER GIBSON December 5, 1905 - September 13, 2002 On Friday, September 13 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Jim passed away at the age of 96. He is survived by his two sons, Jack (Shirley) of Edmonds, WA, and Brian (Eleanor) and his daughter Daisy Parker (Arthur) of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his wife Fern; his son David (Audrey) his five brothers; his two sisters; and his long time companion in life Olive Egerton. Born in Belfast, Ireland, Jim came to Canada in 1927 at the age of 22. After a brief stay in Saskatchewan, where he met his wife Fern, he moved to Winnipeg to find work. Fern joined him there and they were married and raised four children through the 1930s. Jim joined the RCAF in 1940 and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He retired from the provincial Civil Service in 1970. He was an avid supporter of the Credit Union movement in Manitoba, a long time member of the Valour Road Legion, enjoyed singing, dancing, five pin bowling and Bomber games for many years. In the early 1960s he built a cottage at McConnell Lake, ON, where he spent many happy years. He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of B1 and B2 at the Middlechurch Home for the excellent care that Dad received in the last few years. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
