ELAINE SLOBODIANEK Quietly and unexpectedly, Mom passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Selkirk General Hospital. Mom was predeceased by Dad. Wally in 1998. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Brenda (Ron) Sutherland and Janis (Bob) Davies; and grandchildren, Adam and Megan Sutherland and Jenna and Jared Davies. She will also be missed by her sisters, Shirley Peterson, Roxy (Stew) Cheyne, Adele Bond; stepbrother Clarence (Heida) Koch; and by many nieces and nephews. Mom was faced with the challenge of living with Multiple Sclerosis throughout most of her adult life. In spite of these obstacles, she lived and enjoyed life to the fullest, always with a positive attitude and a smile for those around her. To her, the glass was always half full and she said that "There are others worse off than me". Mom was born on August 16, 1932 in Grahamdale, MB and moved to Teulon in 1947. She married Wally on December 7, 1956 and together they worked at the family store. In her early years, Mom was active with the U.C.W. and helped with many teas, bazaars and fall suppers. Her passion in life was socializing with friends, from the Tuesday bingo night tea parties to evenings at the golf course or at home with family and friends. Mom was able to live at home with the help of Home Care until 1991 when she became a resident of Goodwin Lodge. She lived there for 11 years until she was hospitalized in July 2002. Mom enjoyed her time at Goodwin Lodge with the love and support of her "extended family" there. Thank you to all the Home Care workers and Goodwin Lodge staff for your tremendous support over the years. A warm thank you to Dr. Badenhorst and all the staff on medicine at Selkirk General Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the Teulon United Church. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Goodwin Lodge, Teulon. We love you dearly and youll never be forgotten, Mom. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
