Najdowski, on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 12:22 p.m. Beloved mother of Irena Najdowski, Barbara Ewalt and Margeret Clarke. Former wife of Constantine Najdowski and companion of six years to Frank Sims, who passed away in 1996. Sister of seven deceased brothers. Grandmother of Christopher, Elizabeth and Jackie. She was a retired nurse from St. Boniface and Misericordia Hospitals in Winnipeg, Canada after 40 years of health care service. She was an avid shuffleboard player, cribbage and bridge player. She passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her youngest daughter, Margeret, with whom she resided at 4321 Barnard St. in Metairie. She was born in Minsk, Russia and after nursing school she was captured by German forces and sent to a prisoner of war camp and never saw her immediate family again, except for her now deceased youngest brother, Nicholas Matyrko, who was an attorney in Chicago, IL. After being liberated by American troops in 1945, she immigrated to Canada in 1949. She lived, worked and raised her daughters in Winnipeg, from where she travelled extensively. She moved to Louisiana in May, 2002, where she spent her last days with her daughter. She was 81. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial mass from the METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME OF L.A. MUHLEISEN & SON, 2929 Metairie Rd., on Saturday, November 23 at 6:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until time of service on Saturday.
