DR. PATRICK MARTIN FENTON McGARRY Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Sunday December 8, 2002. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 50 years Patricia Joan; sons and daughters, Kevin (Betty), Pat (Melanie), Deirdre (Gord), Anne (Charles), Geraldine (Brian), Martin (Candice) and 11 devoted grandchildren. Born in England October 15, 1922, he came to live in Ireland at an early age. He received his education at Clongoews Wood College, Co. Kildare. He received his medical degree from University College, Cork in 1946. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corp in 1947 and served in England and Germany. In 1950 he was sent to Korea with the British Field Surgical Team and subsequently posted to an American MASH. Later he was sent to the base in Kure Japan where he met his wife to be Patricia. On return to the UK he completed his anaesthetic training and married Patricia Joan Ibbett on May 17, 1952. In 1954 they moved with their son Kevin to Canada. He joined the anaesthetic department at Childrens Hospital Winnipeg in 1954 and in 1957 moved to the Grace Hospital where he remained as chief of anaesthesia until retirement in 1988. He then worked as a medical consultant at the Workmans Compensation Board for four years. He loved to visit his dear cousins and friends in Ireland, who will also miss him dearly. Although a proud Canadian, his heart belonged to Ireland. A wonderful role model, he provided a strong and positive influence on all our lives, creating a legacy of faith, love and devotion. We will greatly miss you. Goodbye and may God bless and keep you. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church at 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert the Celebrant.
