EDWIN PELE October 3, 1916 - May 2, 2003 It is great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Edwin, "Eddy The Great". He passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Edwin is survived by his loving wife Lucia; his children, Andy (Sandra), Laila, Yuris (Jan) and Eric (Joycelyn) as well as his 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Anita (Keith) and grandson Danny. Edwin and Lucia escaped from a war-ravaged Latvia in 1945 to find their new home in Canada. They settled in Winnipeg in 1950 with their children, Anita, Andy and Laila. Yuris was born in 1950 and Eric in 1957. Edwins first job in Canada was shovelling coal for $25 per week to feed his family. He then started working in construction, and started Pele Construction in 1955. He built many of the beautiful homes in River Heights and Tuxedo. He was also a builder of churches, schools and other buildings in Manitoba. He finally retired from Pele Construction in 1979. Edwin was a selfless, loving man whose main focus in life was providing for and loving his wife and children. One of his labours of love was the family cottage at Red Rock Lake which was built over many years by the whole family. It was the hub of family activity through the generations. In his later years, Ed gave up his favourite sports of hunting and fishing because he said he did not want to hurt living things. Edwin is now safe in heaven with Anita and Danny and will watch over us as he did in his life on earth. A private family service will be held to celebrate Edwins life. The family would like to thank all the kind people who assisted him during his illness, particularly Diane and Peter of the Manitoba Home Care Service, Trevor from Rana Medical, and of course, Dr. Taraska and his assistant Deanna for their excellent care during our fathers illness. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in fathers memory to Pulmonary Fibrosis Research, Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
