Date of Passing: May 17, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT RICHARD (DICK) HOLMES 1928 - 2003 Richard passed away suddenly at his home on May 17. Richards unique outlook on life was an inspiration to all whose lives he touched. His ability to turn the bad into good, and the good into wonderful has helped his family and friends through difficult times. His selfless energies were devoted to helping those he loved. Richard was a passionate man with a great sense of humour. His love of jazz music, sports (especially boxing and wrestling), and movies provided a seemingly limitless source of information on those topics to those who knew him. His stories of growing up in Winnipegs West End, and all the characters he knew, were a wonderful source of entertainment for his children and grandchildren, even as they became adults. Richard first met Irene while working together at Congdon-Marsh Ltd. They were married in 1954, just recently celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary. Richard was in sales at Congdon-Marsh for 25 years, and C.A. DeFehr & sons for 24 years. When he retired, he was busier than ever, always willing to help his family, travelling with Irene, and walking Simon at Birds Hill Park. Richard is survived by his loving wife Irene, children, Elaine, Robert (Barbara), Allison (Berni), and Michael (Melodie) granddaughters, Valerie, Amanda, Camryn, and Maya; great-granddaughter Hope; sister-in-law Marian Sutherland; Auntie Myra Wooden and family; numerous cousins; and his pal Simon. He was predeceased by his father Robert in 1958 and his mother Florence (Marg) in 1991. A memorial service will be held in Richards honour on Thursday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Saviours Anglican Church, 690 Munroe Ave., Rev. Richard Condo officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.
