ARTHUR J. SMITH Art was born in Manitoba on August 18, 1926. He passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on May 19, 2003. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Edna, his loving son, Alan, wife Pat and grandson Chuck, his "favourite" daughter Lynda, husband Mick, grandson Matthew and Staci, grandson Miles and Jessi, and great- granddaughter Kassidy. Also a sister Audrey in Ottawa, plus other family and friends. Art worked 39 years with C.N.R. in many parts of Canada, plus a one and a half year experience in Northwest Africa. He won two awards of distinction from the railway and retired in 1981. He was an avid golfer, spending many enjoyable hours at both the St. Boniface and Elmhurst golf clubs in Winnipeg. After moving to Okanagan in 1997, he joined the Ponderosa Golf Club where he once again made many new friends. His friends were always more important to him than his game. At Arts request there will be no formal service. His family will honour that wish but will gather to share memories and stories with those who knew and loved him. This will take place at the home of his daughter, Lynda, on June 8 at 2:00 p.m. - 3636 Webber Rd., Westbank. Should friends desire, donations may be made in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
