EDWARD HENRY RECKSIEDLER Edward (Eddie) Recksiedler, aged 81, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, where he had been confined for the past four weeks since being involved in a pedestrian vehicle mishap. Eddie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, August and Emma; by sisters, Helena (Pokrant), Lydia (Janke) and Laura (Abraham) and brothers, William, Gustav, Leo and Ernest; also five siblings in infancy. Surviving him is one sister-in-law Irma Recksiedler of Rosenfeld and numerous nieces and nephews and their families who cherish his memory and will sadly miss "Uncle Eddie". Eddie grew up on the family farm just south of Rosenfeld. After schooling in Rosenfeld and Gretna, he farmed with his brothers for many years. He enjoyed sports and an occasional hunting excursion. At one time Eddie also played in the St. John, Rosenfeld Church Band. He reportedly was one of the very few who were daring enough to scale the heights and help erect the steeple when the present Rosenfeld Church was built in the late 1940s. When Leo and Eddie moved to Winnipeg in 1988, Eddie soon took to 6:30 a.m. walks in their area, striking up conversation with whoever was about at that early hour. Over the years he travelled literally thousands of miles on City Transit visiting malls, coffee shops, community and sporting events. A lot of strangers became a friend along the way and he seemed to take delight at becoming known as "Eddie-O" among them. Family was important to Eddie. Having no children of his own, he took much interest in his nieces and nephews, encouraging them and taking pride in their endeavours. The family extends their sincere thanks to all doctors, interns, nurses and support staff on the various wards at the Health Sciences Centre who cared so compassionately for our uncle over the past few weeks. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona in Altona, MB from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27 and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at St. John Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld, MB with interment in Rosenfeld Cemetery.
