Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE IRENE LALUK (nee TORGERSON) Myrtle Irene Laluk (nee Torgerson) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at her residence, Central Park Lodge, Brandon. Mom was born March 15, 1924 in Saltcoats, SK, to Eleanor and Carl Torgerson. The family moved from Saskatchewan to Manitoba where Mom attended Clifton Bank School before working for several families in the Glenboro area. On June 22, 1943, she married Frank Laluk and they farmed in the Baldur vicinity, later moving to Glenboro where Frank was a mechanic. In 1955, the family relocated to 616-11th St., Brandon, where they resided for 45 years. Mom loved her family and particularly enjoyed family gatherings with her brothers and sisters. She loved the tranquility of gardening and worked happily in her greenhouse by the hour. Baking, crocheting and knitting filled her free time and provided many memorable keepsakes for her grandchildren. A great joy for Mom was her 40 years at the family cabin in the old campground of Clear Lake. Many special friendships were formed at the kitchenette over coffee, late night snacks and a great game of cards. Some winter nights were filled with bingo as Frank worked at carpentry jobs for many Brandon residents. In December 2000, Mom moved to Hobbs Manor where she cultivated a whole new group of friends prior to her entering Central Park Lodge in August of 2002. She soon called Central Park home and continued to enjoy the visits of special nephew Sam Munro and Kathy Kennedy as well as her immediate family, friends and acquaintances. Mom was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Art and Russell; sisters, Joyce Vandecar, Maybelle Munro and Shirley Otto; grandson, Eric and her beloved husband Frank in 1998. She is survived by sons, Harvey (Barbara), John (Jodi) of Wetaskiwin, AB and Dale (Wendy) of Hudsons Hope, BC; sisters: Olive Thompson, Hilda Christie, Gwen Olsen, Glenda Zilkowsky (Art) and Sheila Farrell; brothers, Wren Torgerson (Brenda) and Barton Torgerson. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Myrtle will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th St., Brandon on Saturday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m., after a private family interment for Myrtle and Frank at Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Brandon. Rev. Paul Curtis of St. James Anglican Church, Rivers, will officiate. Mom was a kind and caring person who will be lovingly missed by her family and friends. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Myrtle may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 727B-10th St., Brandon, MB R7A 4G7 or to a charity of choice. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
