LUIS DOS SANTOS REIS Peacefully, on the morning of July 27, 2003, Luis dos Santos Reis of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at Concordia Hospital. Luis was born on November 1, 1922 in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 to work for the Canadian National Railway until his retirement in 1988. Luis held a strong faith in God, which was displayed by his dedication to the church. On a regular basis, he helped prepare for Sunday mass. Luis also had a love of life. He loved his granddaughters and cherished his time with them. He enjoyed socializing with his family and friends, playing music, dancing and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Reis; his son Luis Pereira Reis (Monica) and granddaughters, Rebecca and Emily of Winnipeg; Rose (Joe Romeo), Joseph Torchia (Beverley), Angie Spilchuk, Gabriel Torchia and Frank Torchia; grandchildren, Karen (Procyshyn), Joseph Torchia (Susan), Frank Torchia, Dean Torchia (Cathy), Allan Hunnie (Melody), Lana Shand (Doug), Charmaine Zahorodney (Cecil), Dena Torchia, Todd Torchia (Nadine), Mandy Torchia (Kerry) and numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Agostino Reis, Rosarinha Botelho (Antonio), Manuel Reis (Alda), Maria do Carmo Farias, and Maria de Lurdes Carvalho (Antonio). Luis is predeceased by his parents, Antonio Raposo Reis and Maria do Espirete Santo Reis of Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal; his son, Jose Manuel Reis of Winnipeg; his siblings, Maria Reis, Luis Reis, Jose Reis, Antonio Reis, Joao Reis, Marianna Arruda, and Francisca Reis; brother-in-law Eduardo Farias and sister-in-law Maria dos Anjos Reis. Pallbearers will be Antero Farias, Eduardo Farias, Jose Maria Reis, Jose Reis, Tony Reis, and Paul Velho. The family wishes to thank relatives, friends and the nursing staff on N2E for their compassion during dads brief stay in the hospital. Viewing will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Holy Redeemer Church, 264 Donwood, with Father Ray Baudry officiating.
