Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENDOLYN VIOLET MCDOWALL With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Gwendolyn V. McDowall, on September 21, 2003 at 79. "Gwennie" passed away peacefully at West Park Manor with family by her side. Gwen was born March 28, 1924, in Edmonton, AB, the second child of Arthur and Gladys Kirk. She married Herbert M. McDowall in 1942. After the war, she moved with him to Winnipeg, and raised four children, Ron, Barb, Valerie and Herb, Jr. Gwen was a dedicated wife, a sweet kind mother and grandmother, who will be lovingly remembered by all her family. Gwennie worked a number of years at the Grannys Kitchen bakery in St. James. In her later years, she would lovingly knit clothes and painstakingly create paper tole pictures for her family and friends. She spent hours with her grandchildren making cookies, walking in the garden, and otherwise spoiling them rotten. Even after a stroke reduced her movement, Gwen made her way to Deer Lodge Centre to sew toys and spend time with residents. Gwennies joyful spirit is greatly missed by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Herb of Winnipeg; son Ron (Barbara) McDowall, Pinawa, MB; daughter Barb (Bill) Thompson, Winnipeg; daughter Valerie (Sheridan) Gaudet, Chilliwack, BC; and son Herb McDowall Jr., Chilliwack, BC. She is also survived by sister Marguerite Doyle, Edmonton, AB; sister Dornie (Buck) Buchanan, Edmonton, AB; and brother Gordon (Bernice) Kirk, Miota, SK. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Quick to laugh and easy to love, Gwennie will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Kirk; brother Arthur Kirk; and sister Vivian Gattenmeyer. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the kind staff at the Grace Hospital, Deer Lodge Centre and West Park Manor for the loving care shown to Gwen. Please join us in remembering Gwens life. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow.
