THEODORE (TED) ROSLYN KRISTJANSON May 30, 1912 - October 6, 2003 Peacefully on October 6, 2003, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, Ted passed away at age 91 with his family at his side. Ted is survived by Annie, his partner in life for the past 70 years. Besides his beloved wife Annie, Ted is survived by sons, Robert (Sigurros) of Gimli, grandchildren, Roberta (Jerry Marks deceased), Christopher (Jennifer) Kristjanson; great-grandchildren, Amy, Jenna, Trevor, Devon and Leila; Ken (Eve-Anne) of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Carolyn (Kevin) Love, Holly (Todd) Lyall, great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Alexa; Richard (Kathleen) of Virden, grandchildren, Kirstin and Jon (Jodi) and great-grandchild Kira; sisters-in-law, Minnie (Norm) of Toronto, Sophie of Gimli, Jean (Eddie) of Peterborough, ON along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his pioneer Icelandic parents, Sigurdur and Sigurbjorg Kristjanson; brothers, Siborg and Hannes; sisters, Teenie Olson, Hannah Jonasson and Valdina Peterson; brothers-in-law, Holmon Olson, Edwin Jonasson and Pete Peterson and sister-in-law Groa Kristjanson. Ted was born May 30, 1912 in Gimli and spent all his life in the community. He was a proud commercial fisherman for over 60 years. At an early age, he formed a partnership with his brother Hannes and together they fished and operated fishing stations at Georges Island, Alberts Point and other locations on Lake Winnipeg. He had many stories to tell about the characters that the lake spawned. He would regale visitors at his private museum for hours about the fishing industry and its transition from sail to diesel. Ted and Annie married in 1933 and on September 12, 2003 they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. After retiring from fishing, Annie and Ted operated the Target store from 1967 to 1992. It was a meeting and greeting place for many. Ted was very active in many organizations as well as having a lifelong passion for collecting things. He was past president of the Lake Winnipeg Packers, Gimli Old Timers, active in the Gimli Kinsmen, the Masonic order and Khartum Shriners. He was Past Master of both Lisgar and Viking lodges. He truly enjoyed his time with the Khartum Vintage Car, the Interlake Shrine Club and all the Shrine related activates. The memorial service will be held Thursday, October 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Horizons, 17 N Colonization Road in Gimli. A reception will follow the service. Cremation has taken place with his ashes to be spread at a later date over his beloved Lake Winnipeg. The family would like to thank his coffee-drivers Irving Kardal and Wilf McCluskie; the staff at Johnson Memorial, Dr. S.V. Patel, and all the student nurses that looked after him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Khartum Transportation Fun, in care of Shrine House, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9.
