JOAN MASTERS (nee HASSELL) 1922 - 2003 Joan passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 28, 2003. Born on November 20, 1922 in Thunder Bay, ON, she was the only child of Evelyn and Christopher Hassell. Joan is survived by her loving son Tom; cousin Reg Rose and family; and her beloved pet dog, Tundra. She was predeceased by her parents. Joan served in the Womens Royal Canadian Service from 1943 to 1945. After coming to Winnipeg, she worked in the regional head-quarters of the Medical Services Branch of Health and Welfare Canada. She was a member of Deer Lodge United Church, the St. James Rebekah Lodge #47, St. James Senior Club, A.N.A.F. Assiniboine #283 Over 60 Club, Xana Business and Professional Club, and the Ex-Wrens Association. Over the years, Joan enjoyed lawn bowling, curling, ceramics, painting, reading and crossword puzzles. At Joans request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave. on Friday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the charity of choice.
