FANNY KUROPATWA (nee KLAPHOLZ) 1914 - 2003 Fanny Kuropatwa passed away peacefully October 27, 2003 in Antwerp, Belgium. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Felix Zelig in 1989; brother Simon; sister Molly; and parents, Augusta and Yitzhak Moshe. She will be sorely missed by her son Ralph (Miriam) grandchildren, Rachel (Steve), David (Sherri), Sharon (Steve), Ruth (Darren), Rob (Catherine), Riki (Curtis), and Rebeca; and great-grandchildren, Yonatan, Talia, Ellie, Leo, Eliezer, Hannah, Kasriel, Madeline, Sara, Abigail, Emelia, and Lily. Fanny Kuropatwa is also survived by a daughter Joy (Bruce). Fanny Kuropatwa was born November 28, 1914 in Wuerzburg, Germany. She left Germany in August 1939, and spent the war years in Shanghai with her parents and siblings. It was there that she met her husband and began her family. Subsequently, the family left Shanghai and made homes in Belgium, England and Winnipeg, where they settled, before returning to Belgium. She was a remarkable woman, warm, funny, hardworking, and intellectually curious. She ran an immaculate home and was an outstanding cook and generous hostess. At the age of 88, Fanny Kuropatwa was a model of independent living and spirit. She always maintained a very positive outlook, despite everything she had experienced and witnessed. Graveside services were held October 29, in Holland. The family sat shiva in Antwerp, Vancouver, and Winnipeg. We are very grateful for the support of family in Antwerp, over the last decade especially. If so desired, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB, Donor Services, 1929 Bayview Ave., Toronto, ON M4G 3E8, (800) 563-2642) would be greatly appreciated.
