GUISSEPINA MANTIA (nee SCALISI) Peacefully, on December 3, 2003, our dear mother and Nona passed away after a lengthy and valiant battle with heart disease and diabetes. Mom was born on June 1, 1932 in Termini Imerese, Sicily, daughter of Maria and Francesco Scalisi. She came to Canada in 1957 with her beloved husband Guisseppe Mantia, who predeceased her in 1984. Pina leaves to mourn her passing her son Vincenzo (Lise) and two grandchildren Guisseppe (a.k.a. Joe) and Karen. She also leaves her uncle Guisseppe (Augustina) Crisanti, of Winnipeg. Relatives, Vince (Marcy) Crisanti of Brandon, Maria Mantia of Sicily, Augustino Gilio of Sicily; Vince (Lina) Caruiso, Rose (Carmello) Sultana, all of Toronto. Also left to mourn are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Sicily, also in Toronto and in the U.S.A. When you were welcomed into Moms home, you always had a warm smile, a cup of coffee and a full plate of food. Moms loving goal in life was the well being of her family. We will carry her love with us always. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to St. Boniface Heart Research Centre, St. Boniface Hospital and the Canadian Diabetes Association. A special thank-you to Tache Centre 4ABC for all the loving care you gave our mother and Nona, with special recognition to Moms friends Mrs. Bumbolo and Mrs. Benecci. Thank-you to Moms friends for all the visits during her stay at Tache Centre. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements 233-4949, toll free 1-888-233-4949.
