VERY REVEREND PATRICK PETER PASCHAK OSBM It is with great sorrow that the family of the Very Reverend Patrick P. Paschak OSBM announce his death on November 25, 2003 in New York City. Rev. Patrick was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 10, 1922. He was born to Matthew and Anastasia Paschak. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Michael (in infancy), Stephan (Fr. Epiphany OSBM), and Damian. Left to mourn his passing are his brother Walter Paschak and his sister the Rev. Sister Epiphany (Olga) Paschak SSMI, sister-in-law Anne, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. After completing his primary education in Winnipeg at St. Nicholas School (now Immaculate Heart of Mary School), he entered the Basilian novitiate at Mundare, AB, on September 10, 1937. He made his first profession of monastic vows on April 20, 1939 and his Solemn Profession on June 27, 1944. Fr. Patrick was among the first Basilian students to study theology in Grimsby, ON, where the Basilians had established a new house of studies, in 1942. After completion of his philosophical and theological formation, Fr. Patrick was ordained to the holy priesthood in Grimsby on August 2, 1947. His first Solemn Liturgy was celebrated at his home parish of St. Nicholas, Winnipeg. Fathers Epiphany and Patrick Paschak were the first Winnipeg-born Basilians to be ordained priests. In his 57 years of priesthood, Fr. Patrick served in many parishes both in Canada and in the United States. He was appointed Provincial Superior of the American Province of the Basilian Order in 1970 and served in that capacity for 12 years. He was appointed Vicar General of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford in 1982, an office which he held for 20 years. On September 28, 1997, Fr. Patrick celebrated a Solemn Divine Liturgy of thanksgiving on the occasion of his 50th jubiliee of priesthood. Manastic Parastas and Divine Liturgy has been celebrated at St. Georges Parish, New York. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Parish, Winnipeg on Friday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m.; interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
