MARION SIGVALDSON (nee PODOLSKY) Peacefully, on December 18, 2003, Marion Sigvaldson passed away with family at her side. A constant 24-hour bedside vigil was present by the family during her emergent illness. Marion was predeceased by her parents, husband and three siblings. She is survived by her immediate family of her daughter Wilma Kostick; son-in-law Al Kostick and granddaughter Dr. Alexandra Kostick. Other survivors include two sisters and three brothers. Marion was born in Vita, MB but spent most of her early years in Sundown, MB. Upon her move to Winnipeg, she persevered to establish a successful and independent life in the city. Being the eldest of a family of nine, she was instrumental in helping her mother and all her younger siblings adjust and establish a new life in the city. At the same time, Marion was supporting and establishing herself in her own career. Her dedication and hard work at Eatons was recognized by her peers and by the T. Eaton Company after 25 plus years of service. Marion liked to travel with her immediate family. It was always a joyous occasion for her to travel to many parts of the United States and to cruise the Caribbean. She particularly enjoyed the time she spent down in Florida with her granddaughter. Marion appreciated the devotion and protectiveness of her daughter. Those that knew her daughter knew how much she cared for her mothers total well-being and happiness. There was nothing in the world that her daughter would not do to ensure Marions comfort. No hurdle or obstacle was too big to accomplish this. A favourite past time for Marion was to have her son-in-law enlighten and entertain her with his numerous stories and jokes. Listening to him for hours always brought a smile to her face. She often remarked, "Al is such a good man." Marions greatest pride was to see her granddaughter become a medical doctor and surgeon. Marions constant support and encouragement helped her granddaughter achieve this highly acclaimed profession. In turn, her granddaughter always made sure Marions medical care was well looked after. Marion was blessed to have loving and caring companions at her side on a daily basis which was arranged by her immediate family. Marion appreciated their sense of humour, their banter, and their protectiveness. The family sincerely appreciates the support and dedication of the companions, namely Ollie, Lorraine and Ada. The family also wishes to thank the fifth and sixth floor staff of the Misericordia Health Centre. Marion had her favourites and they all know who they are. Thanks also to the Grace Hospital nursing staff for their compassionate concern. A heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Oscar Domke for years for his attentive, supportive and excellent medical care.
