GERRY (GOTTHOLD) LACH On January 24, 2004, Gerry Lach, at the age of 76, left us to join his beloved daughter Marlene who passed away this past August. Gerry was born on June 18, 1927 in Mieczyslawow, Poland, of German decent to Emma and Daniel Lach. He will be remembered by his wife Penny, his son Curtis, daughter Gail (Lawrence), grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher; son-in-law Jan, granddaughters, Alexa and Kaylee; his sisters, Irma and Helga (Helmuth) in Germany, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. In addition to his daughter Marlene, he was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Emma, one sister in infancy, a brother Alvin in childhood, and his brother Helmut in 1993. As a young man, Gerry fought in the Second World War. In 1951, at the age of 24, he decided to leave war-torn Germany, and move to Canada, the land of opportunity. His career included a variety of jobs from gas station attendant to taxi cab driver, eventually leading him to his true passion of landscaping. Gerry was the owner of Lach Brothers Landscaping, which was formed in 1953, and was well known throughout the city for his talent in the landscaping field. He also had a tremendous passion for gardening as well as cooking up a storm in the kitchen. He was a true perfectionist in his work, and there are a number of parks and businesses in Winnipeg that are evidence of his incredible talent. To celebrate his memory, think of him as you plant a tree, tend to your yard, or smell a flower. A special thank you to Dr. Mellon at the Charleswood Clinic who Gerry had a very high regard for. The family would also like to thank the incredible medical staff at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during Gerrys last days. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, January 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m. also at the chapel. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
