Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD RICHARD FIDLER Donald Richard Fidler died Monday, February 23, 2004 in Toronto. Don was born in Winnipeg on April 21, 1914, son of Lelia and Richard Fidler. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Velma (February 13, 2001) his brothers, Frank, Herb, Jack and Joe. He is survived by his sister Ruth Coggan of Goshen, Indiana. Mourning his loss are his daughter, Marilyn Clarke of Winnipeg; his granddaughter Michelle Clarke and her husband, John Bartucz of Rochester, Minnesota; Michelles father, Jim Clarke, many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Don received loving attention from his Toronto niece, Anne Trainor, her husband Lynn and his sister-in-law Marguerite Fidler. He married Velma Kelly in 1940 and together they enjoyed 60 years of happy marriage amongst a wealth of treasured friends and family. Don attended Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, the University of Winnipeg and received his Honours Commerce degree at Queens University in Kingston. He enjoyed 43 years with Manulife Financial (formerly Manufacturers Life Insurance Co.) in the Mortgage Department, serving in Head Office in Toronto, and as Branch Manager in several Canadian cities. He retired in 1979 as Assistant Vice-President of United States New Investments. His many interests included curling, golf, Kiwanis and 23 years of "Living and Learning in Retirement" courses at Glendon College. Don greatly valued his friends at Leaside United Church and in the Supper Club. Friends and family will remember Don for his kindness, positive attitude and sense of fairness. He lived a happy, fulfilled life and will be thought of with respect and love. Grateful thanks to the staff at Donway Place where Don lived, Darlene of Saint Elizabeth Health Care, to the nurses on 6 North at North York General Hospital and the faithful companions of Caregivers Unlimited. A memorial service was held at Leaside United Church, Toronto on Thursday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Ralph Taylor officiating.
