Date of Passing: Jul 10, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAY FERGUSON April 6, 1913 - July 10, 2004 On July 10, 2004, May gave up her tenacious hold on life and went to join her Maker and the rest of her family. May was predeceased by her twin sister, Ethel; sister Agnes; brother Harold; and brother-in-law Paul. Left to celebrate her life are her nieces, Barb, Kerry (Jim), Sharon (Duane), and Valerie (Roger) nephew Robert (Leona) great-nieces and nephews, Jo-Anne, Michael, Lisa, Tony, Marie, Allen, Joey, Elizabeth and Jamie. May was born, educated, and lived most of her 91 years in St. James. She taught school for over 35 years, five years in rural Manitoba (all grades) and 30 years in Winnipeg (Kindergarten). She touched the lives of hundreds of children. May lived her life in a quiet, dignified, yet determined manner. She worked hard and gave quietly to her family and friends, hand-knitted socks, home-made cookies, Sunday dinners, birthday and Christmas gifts, and her time babysitting and helping out. May enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, baking, playing the piano, travelling and bowling, all of which she did well into her eighties. She enjoyed her cottage at Red Rock Lake where she spent most summers since 1959. May never missed a chance to swim and loved to pick and eat blueberries. She belonged to the Business and Professional Womens Club and to the Retired Woman Teachers Association. She enjoyed social occasions and would never turn down an outing. May was a member of the St. James United Church since her childhood, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the U.C.W. She had a good sense of humour and a strong faith which she particularly needed over her last years as she grieved the loss of her twin sister in 1990 and coped with her own failing health. She taught us how to "carry on" in spite of loss. Thanks to all who touched Mays life with friendship and caring. Special thanks niece, Kerry Strom, Loretta Hoene, Chris Redmond, and Chris Seifert who helped May keep her cherished independence as long as she could, and cared for her for many years after. Thanks to Ruby for all her support and visiting, she became part of Mays "extended" family. A celebration of Mays life will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St., with a reception and interment to follow. Donations may be made in Mays memory to the St. James United Church. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
