STEVE FERENS It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and dido. On Monday, September 6, 2004, after a short battle with cancer, Steve Ferens passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 80. Steve will be deeply missed by his wife Irene of 47 years; and his sons, Bohdan, Ken, Brian (Halyna) and Michael. He will also be greatly missed by his grandsons, Derek, Trevin, Christopher, Nicholas and Adrian; and many other relatives and friends. Steve was predeceased by his father (1937), mother (1954), two brothers and three sisters. Steve was born January 29, 1924, in the Sambir region of western Ukraine. In 1942, at the age of 17, Steve worked on a farm in Germany as a labourer for 11 years. It was during this time that Steve first began mastering his skills at cabinet making and general carpentry. In 1953, with the generous aid of his good friends Fiona Banas and Bill Sherburn, Steve immigrated to Winnipeg. A few years later, he met and married his wife Irene in 1957. Shortly after, he was blessed with his first son Bohdan, followed by Ken, Brian and Michael. Steve was employed at Dowse woodworking, where he continued his career as a cabinet maker, up until his retirement. He was also a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and Institute Prosvita. Steve will always be remembered as a quiet, gentle unassuming man. He was a very dedicated family man and a very hard worker. He always placed his family first, always making time for his four sons, and was dedicated to all his grandsons. He excelled at cabinet making and over the years he built with much pride and love for his family and friends, all in his tiny one-car garage: many kitchen cabinets, living room furniture sets and bedroom suites. Well all miss you, Dad, but we know youll be watching us from heaven with your faint whistling. Special thanks to all our friends and family who came to visit our father, and who supported us through this terrible time. Prayers (panachyda) will be sung at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with Rev. Michael Kouts and Rev. Deacon M. Woroby officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Steves memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0S8. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
