MATTHEW PETRASH It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Matthew Petrash. After a long and stoic battle with cancer, Matthew passed peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital, September 10, 2004. Matthew (daddy) will be remembered thoughtfully and lovingly by his wife Olga; daughter Delia (Fletcher) son Alan (Sharon) and grandchildren, Jennie, Riva, Evan and Liam. He was predeceased by his sister Anne Pastuch. Matthew was born in Winnipeg, the son of Polish/Ukrainian immigrants in 1927. He went to Issac Newton School and enjoyed playing baseball and football. He was a member of the AUUC (Ukrainian Labour Temple) choir where he met Olga Tansony. They were married in 1949. Dad worked hard at more than one job to support his family through the early years. He settled finally into long time employment at CNR Symington Yard and retired in 1985. He was a loving, committed father and husband. Daddy took great interest in travel, chess and cooking. Mom and Dad piled into the car on many occasions to go and see the sights of North America. Dad loved a good game of chess and became a very good player. He especially enjoyed "hanging" with the chess players at Garden City Shopping Centre. Dads other passion was thoroughbred race horses. Dad became an owner/trainer in the mid 60s and throughout the ensuing 10 years was known as the "man with a one-horse stable". Dads shy and sensitive demeanour touched those who knew him. He was a man of few words and deep feelings. Daddy was a gentle and helpful man who made few demands, but was always there for others. Dad was a great "kidder" and was always primed for a good laugh. We would like to thank the nurses of Unit 3, 5th floor, Seven Oaks for their care and compassion. A celebration of Dads life will be held on Tuesday, September 14, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., at 2:30 p.m. with a lunch gathering for family and friends to follow. Rest peacefully Daddy, We love you and miss you! CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
